Responsible use

GridStreamr does not provide IPTV channels, VOD, or playlists. You bring your own authorized Xtream Codes or M3U sources. You are responsible for complying with applicable terms, licenses, and local law.

In-car IPTV only helps if the product is honest about which cars. GridStreamr’s automotive surface is Android Auto on AOSP aftermarket head units — install via Download App code 2611137 (or aftv.news/2611137). It is not CarPlay, and it is not a shipping Android Automotive (AAOS) factory integration.

What “AOSP aftermarket Android Auto” means

TermMeaning for GridStreamr
Android AutoProjection / head-unit experience for apps designed for the car UI
AOSP aftermarketThird-party head units running open Android Auto-compatible stacks you sideload/download apps onto
Code 2611137Download App / aftv.news style install code used for this build
AAOSFactory Android Automotive OS — not supported as a shipping target
CarPlayApple’s car UI — not supported

If your car only offers CarPlay, use GridStreamr on iPhone when parked — there is no CarPlay app.

Install overview

  1. Confirm your head unit is an AOSP aftermarket Android Auto unit (not a locked AAOS OEM system)
  2. Install GridStreamr using code 2611137 or aftv.news/2611137 via the unit’s download-app flow
  3. Sign in with the same GridStreamr account as your phone
  4. Confirm Premium entitlement synced if you rely on Premium playback features
  5. Open a pre-built Smart Collection — do not build libraries in motion

What you should prepare on the phone first

Car UI is the wrong place to paste Xtream hosts.

On Android or iOS:

  1. Add Xtream / M3U
  2. Build a slim Car or Travel Smart Collection
  3. Heart 10–30 known-good channels (audio clarity > 4K labels)
  4. Map enough EPG that titles make sense at a glance
  5. PIN-lock anything that should never appear in the car

Glance-safe feature expectations

FeatureIn-car guidance
Live playback from Smart Collections✓ Primary use
Favorites✓ Keep the list short
Deep EPG browsingAvoid while driving
MultiViewNot a driving feature
TimeShift archive diggingParked only
Jellyfin browsingParked only

Premium, sync and entitlements

Your car install should reflect the same account as your phone. Premium features (full-day EPG, TimeShift, etc.) follow your subscription — they are not a separate “car SKU.” If something is locked in the car but open on the phone, re-check sign-in and entitlement sync, then relaunch the head-unit app.

Safety and legality

  • Follow local distracted-driving laws
  • Prefer audio-focused listening when video is unsafe
  • Only use authorized IPTV sources
  • Do not treat the head unit as a place to store master provider passwords in screenshots

Common misconceptions

  1. “Android Auto” in a marketing screenshot ≠ AAOS support
  2. iPhone + CarPlay will not run GridStreamr in the dash
  3. Sideloading random IPTV APKs on a head unit is not the same as this supported code path
  4. A 2,000-channel dump is unusable and unsafe in the car — shortlist first

Who this platform is for

  • Drivers with aftermarket Android Auto head units that accept Download App codes
  • Households that already curate IPTV on phone and want audio-friendly cabin playback
  • People who need a clear “yes AOSP / no AAOS / no CarPlay” answer before buying hardware

Who should skip it:

  • CarPlay-only Apple cars
  • Locked factory AAOS systems with no sideload path
  • Anyone expecting to browse 2,000 channels at highway speed

Bandwidth and provider etiquette in the cabin

Cellular hotspots drop. Prefer known-good HD over fantasy 4K labels. Avoid MultiView. If your provider limits concurrent streams, do not leave a living-room TV playing the same line while the car also streams — that is how “your IPTV is broken” tickets start.

When passengers want their own screen, issue a secure share to their phone instead of logging the master account into every seat-back tablet.

Frequently asked questions

Does GridStreamr support Android Auto?

Yes on AOSP aftermarket head units. Install via Download App code 2611137 or aftv.news/2611137. It is not a shipping Android Automotive (AAOS) integration and does not support CarPlay.

Is this the same as Android Automotive / AAOS?

No. Factory Android Automotive dashboards are not a supported shipping target. GridStreamr targets aftermarket AOSP Android Auto head units only.

Do I need Premium for Android Auto?

Premium entitlement syncs from your phone subscription for full player features. Confirm current plan limits in-app and on the pricing page.

Can I add Xtream credentials in the car?

Curate sources and Smart Collections on your phone first. The car experience should stay glance-safe — avoid typing long passwords while driving.

Does GridStreamr provide IPTV channels in the car?

No. You connect authorized Xtream or M3U sources on your account. GridStreamr is the player and organizer, not a content provider.
