GridStreamr does not provide IPTV channels, VOD, or playlists. You bring your own authorized Xtream Codes or M3U sources. You are responsible for complying with applicable terms, licenses, and local law.
Amazon Fire TV and Fire Stick devices run a fork of Android. Many households want the same Smart Collections they curate on phone on the living-room stick — with honest expectations about store availability and sideloading.
Fire TV vs Android TV
GridStreamr's first-class lean-back target is Android TV / Google TV via Google Play. Fire OS may require sideloading an Android build when Amazon Appstore distribution is unavailable. Sideload only if you understand Amazon's security prompts and update implications.

- Curate sources and Smart Collections on iPhone or Android phone
- Prefer a Google Play Android TV device when you can choose hardware
- On Fire TV, follow current GridStreamr download/sideload instructions from support docs when published for your build
- Sign in with the same account so collections sync

Always verify Premium vs Free limits on pricing before promising a household workflow. Free is enough to prove Xtream/M3U import and one Smart Collection; multi-provider homes, full EPG timelines, DVR and Jellyfin typically need Premium. Rights and responsibility
Legal note: recording, sharing and catch-up only apply to content and services you are authorized to use. GridStreamr is software — not a subscription for live TV channels. If a relative asks for "the login," give them a revocable virtual share instead of your panel password.
Control plane coexistence
If a competitor app already feels perfect for lean-back playback alone, you can still use GridStreamr as the control plane: clean the lineup, attach EPG, export virtual credentials or M3U Plus and keep watching in the player you prefer. Many power users run this hybrid for years without drama.
Homelab operability
Document your pairing IPs, DVR volumes and share tokens the same way you document NAS credentials. Homelab IPTV fails more often from forgotten LAN details than from player bugs. DHCP reservations for the DVR host and a written note of port 8787 save weekend troubleshooting.
Sports and event hygiene

Sharing without password leaks
Family sharing should never mean screenshotting panel credentials into a chat thread. Create a Smart Collection with only what that person needs, share it, and revoke when a device is lost. XMLTV URLs travel with M3U Plus when the destination player needs a guide.
DVR storage realism

Jellyfin stays the file server
Jellyfin remains excellent for movies and series you already store. It is not a substitute Xtream panel. Use Jellyfin in GridStreamr when you want one client for library + live, and keep live credentials in IPTV sources where they belong.
Buffering is usually networked
Before installing five "faster" players, test Ethernet, quiet the Wi-Fi neighbourhood, disable a flaky VPN hop and try a lower-bitrate sibling channel. The buffering guide is intentionally boring — because boring checklists fix more streams than APK hopping.
