Virtual Credentials for Shared IPTV Playlists Explained
What GridStreamr virtual credentials are, how they differ from your real Xtream password, and how you can create, share, and revoke access to a Smart Collection.

Responsible use
GridStreamr does not provide IPTV channels, VOD, or playlists. You bring your own authorized Xtream Codes or M3U sources. You are responsible for complying with applicable terms, licenses, and local law.
Virtual credentials are generated Xtream-style login values that point at a Smart Collection share, not at your provider panel. Recipients get your curated lineup; they never see your real host, username, or password.
The problem they solve
Panel passwords are all-or-nothing. Virtual credentials are scoped (one collection), revocable (per share), and optionally time-limited.
Lifecycle
- Finish curating your Smart Collection (names, EPG, Kids filters)
- Open Manage Shares
- Create a share → copy share host, code/token (and optional M3U Plus + XMLTV)
- Deliver to the recipient's player or GridStreamr @username
- Revoke or let expiry end access

Virtual Xtream vs M3U Plus
| Recipient app expects… | Prefer |
|---|---|
| Host / username / password fields | Virtual Xtream credentials |
| Playlist URL field | M3U Plus URL |
| Separate EPG URL | XMLTV from Manage Shares |
Both beat texting your real password. See also secure sharing vs password sharing.
What recipients can and cannot do
Can: play channels in that collection in compatible apps.
Cannot: see your real panel login, administer your GridStreamr account, or expand the share beyond what you put in the collection.
Household patterns
- Kids tablet — Kids collection share or @username; PIN-lock warehouse collections on your parent account
- Guest weekend — short expiry
- Living-room TiviMate — virtual credentials + XMLTV; curate in GridStreamr, play in TiviMate (export guide)
Security checklist
- Rotate shares after a lost device
- Don't reuse one unlimited token for every relative forever
- Keep adult channels out of the shared collection
- Confirm your provider terms allow household sharing
Free vs Premium
Free supports sharing within one 20-entry collection. Premium unlocks unlimited collections for multi-room setups — pricing.
Mental model
Think of virtual credentials as a door key to one room (the Smart Collection), not a master key to the building (your panel). Revoking that room's key doesn't force you to rekey every other door.
Creating a share step by step
- Open your Smart Collection
- Manage Shares → create
- Choose expiry if the recipient is temporary
- Copy Xtream-style fields or M3U Plus + XMLTV
- Test in the destination app with one channel before handing it to the household
If the destination app fails, try the other format (virtual Xtream vs M3U Plus). Player import UIs differ.
Revocation scenarios
- Phone stolen → revoke all active shares, create new ones for devices you still trust
- Roommate moves out → revoke their share only
- Provider password rotated → your real login changes; recreate shares if the share layer required re-auth (usually shares survive because they are not the panel password)
What not to put in a shared collection
Adult categories, raw provider dumps, and experimental backup feeds. Share the living-room list, not the warehouse.
Create a revocable share
Scoped to a Smart Collection. Your real login never leaves your account.
Frequently asked questions
Are virtual credentials my real provider username?
No. They are generated share code and token values scoped to one Smart Collection. Your real panel host, username, and password stay private.
Can I revoke virtual credentials?
Yes. Delete the share in Manage Shares and that token stops resolving. Create a new share if you still need access for someone else.
Do virtual credentials work outside GridStreamr?
Yes in apps that accept Xtream-compatible host/user/pass or M3U Plus URLs — TiviMate, Smarters-compatible players, Kodi, VLC, and others.
What about EPG for the recipient?
Copy the XMLTV URL from the same Manage Shares screen so third-party players get guide rows aligned with your mapping.
Is this available on Free?
Yes within Free limits (one Smart Collection, 20 entries). Premium unlocks more collections for larger households.
Does GridStreamr provide the streams behind a share?
No. Shares resolve to channels from sources you already connected and are authorized to use.
