How to Share an IPTV Playlist Safely Without Exposing Your Credentials
Use GridStreamr Smart Collections to share live TV access with family or friends via tokenised URLs, your Xtream Codes login is never visible to recipients.
Responsible Use
Use GridStreamr only with content sources, playlists, metadata services, subtitle services, and AI providers you are authorized to use. You are responsible for complying with applicable terms, licenses, and local law.
Sharing your IPTV access with a family member usually means giving them your actual Xtream Codes username and password, which puts your subscription at risk if anything goes wrong. GridStreamr's Smart Collections generate tokenised share credentials so your original login is never exposed.
How secure sharing works
When you share a Smart Collection, GridStreamr creates a unique Share Code and Token that act like Xtream Codes credentials. The recipient uses those to access only the channels you curated — they cannot see your real panel URL, username, or password.
- Your original credentials are never transmitted to the recipient.
- You can revoke access instantly from Manage Shares.
- Sharing directly with a GridStreamr @username sets up one-tap configuration with a push notification.
Works with any Xtream-compatible player
The share link GridStreamr generates is a standard Xtream Codes URL, so your recipient can use it in whichever player they already have installed — no special setup required on their end.
- TiviMate — paste the Xtream URL in Add Playlist and it works instantly.
- IPTV Smarters — enter the server, username, and password from the share link.
- IBO Player — add as an Xtream account with the provided credentials.
- Kodi (with the PVR IPTV Simple Client or a dedicated add-on) — use the M3U link.
- VLC and any other player that accepts an M3U or Xtream URL.
Step by step: share a Smart Collection
- Open your Smart Collection in GridStreamr.
- Tap 'Manage Shares' (⋮ menu or dedicated button).
- Choose 'Share with @username' (for GridStreamr users) or 'Generate Link' (for any player).
- Copy the XTREAM URL or M3U link and send it to your recipient.
- To revoke, return to Manage Shares and delete the share.
Set an expiry date for full control
When generating a share link you can set an expiry date, after which the link stops working automatically. You stay in full control of who can access your content and for how long — no need to remember to revoke manually.
- Sharing with a friend who only wants to watch a football match this weekend? Set the link to expire Sunday night — access disappears the moment the final whistle goes.
- Letting a family member follow a particular series? Expire the link when the season finale airs so they cannot browse anything else after.
- A guest wants to watch a specific movie at their place tonight? Give them a 24-hour link that self-destructs without you lifting a finger.
- Travelling and want to share your sports pack with a colleague for the duration of the trip? Set the expiry to your return date.
